Forged in the oilfield. fueled by family.
Trammell Consulting is founded on generational experience and a deep respect for the people that keep America’s energy flowing. Every job is personal—because our name is on it.

where it all began
While most kids his age were playing in backyards, Ricky Trammell was learning about the oilfield. At 9 years old, he started tagging along with his Uncle Dubb Tubb, who owned a drill collar inspection company.
By 16, he was running casing with a crew, and not long after, he was on the rathole machine. Since nearly all his family worked in the oilfield, Ricky was the first call anytime someone was shorthanded. He filled in wherever needed—learning the work from the ground up across nearly every part of the operation.
At 21, he became the youngest toolpusher at Parker Drilling Company—then the largest global drilling company in the world. And by 23, he was serving as a company man for Santa Fe Oil.
Starting as young as he did, and working across so many roles in such a high-pressure environment, Ricky became something of a pioneer during what many refer to as the “kill one, hire one” era—when the work never slowed and the margin for error was thin. He earned his keep by always showing up, filling any gaps, and getting the job done right.
In 1982, while living in San Angelo, Texas—the year before his son Toby was born—he founded Trammell Consulting. For Ricky, it was never about making a name. It was about doing honest work and making as much as he could to take good care of his family. That purpose drove every decision—and it still shapes the legacy he began.
Toby trammell
Raised in the Oilfield.
Pressure-tested.
Respected Across Basins.
Much like Ricky, Toby grew up on rig locations—absorbing knowledge without even realizing it. What started as curiosity turned into calling.
After trading in the pro rodeo arena for the rig in 2008, Toby stepped fully into the oilfield and has since gained over 16 years of hands-on experience in drilling and completions. He’s led operations across the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford, and Delaware plays—following in the footsteps of the man who showed him what it meant to do the job right.
While most drilling consultants track stats and stack up metrics to make a name for themselves, Toby’s always measured success a little differently. He’s taken pride in building trust, not a scoreboard. From mentoring roughnecks through the highs and lows of boom-and-bust cycles to managing land and deer leases for ranchers, he’s stayed close to the people behind every area of the work—because for Toby, relationships are the real bottom line. “A man is only as good as his word,” he says.
That approach has made Trammell Consulting the go-to for two drilling operators over the last 41 years, 16 of which were under Toby’s watch—without ever needing to pitch a portfolio. They didn’t focus on setting records. They were making good money, operations were safe, landowners were happy, and rigs kept turning timely. Great results spoke louder than boastful records.
Still mentored by his dad, who’s since retired, Toby carries on the work with the same no-nonsense approach that’s defined their family name in the field for decades. This isn’t just a job. It’s a way of life that was handed down—and now, carried forward.
